Why kill the mockingbird if he only wants to sing?
His melodic song flies through the trees
And brings the spring with it.
Why kill the mockingbird if he only wants to be your friend?
He’s nice and kind,
he resembles a young child.
Why kill the mockingbird if he just wants to travel the world?
He is eager to catch a glimpse
of all the wonderful things there are to be seen.
Why kill the mockingbird if he just wants to be free?
Let him spread his wings and grow.
Let him fly. Let him dream
Why kill the mockingbird if he means you no harm?
You put him in a cage and expect him to survive.
But just won’t do, for the little bird is meant to roam.
So fly away, Mockingbird.
Pass the trees and the fields.
Over the town and up to the sky.
Keep filling the world with your melodic song,
Let your friendliness bring us smiles.
Let your kindness give us hope to survive.
